SWEPCO Preparing for Potential Winter Weather

Actualización: 1/21/2026 3:33 p. m. Hora Central

SWEPCO is actively watching the winter weather forecasted for this weekend which could bring snow, ice and frigid temperatures across the entire SWEPCO service territory in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Now is the time to prepare to safely weather the storm.

In preparation for this winter storm season, SWEPCO crews across the three states worked throughout 2025 to make our power distribution infrastructure as storm resilient as possible to include inspecting more than 81,000 power poles and replacing of more than 16,000 poles. Additionally, more than 1,370 miles of vegetation was cleared around power lines.

SWEPCO also has comprehensive severe winter weather action plans in place. Our crews in all three states are ready to respond promptly and safely to potential service interruptions and our power plants have site-specific protocols, procedures, and inspections to ensure safe and reliable operations when winter weather strikes.

"We are committed to caring for our customers no matter what the weather brings. That is why we are closely monitoring this weekend's winter weather forecast for SWEPCO's service territory and have comprehensive winter weather action plans in place for both our power plants and storm response in communities," said Drew Seidel, SWEPCO vice president of Region Distribution Operations. "We urge our customers to be weather aware and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions."

SWEPCO encourages customers to be prepared for winter weather by having an emergency kit on hand and plan in place in the event of a power outage, particularly if they or a family member relies on uninterrupted electric service for health reasons.

Customers can download the SWEPCO app to stay informed about power outages, receive real-time updates, and access safety tips.
